OUR KIDS' HOME

ALICE * stand for: Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed. ALICE lives and works in our community but teeters on the edge of poverty. ALICE is often just a car repair away from falling off that edge.

ALICE may be a relative or friend. You may be ALICE. As cashiers, waiters, child care providers, and other members of our essential workforce, ALICE works to earn enough to put themselves just above the Federal Poverty Level but less than what it costs to make ends meet. These struggling households make up 42% of the homes in Staunton, Waynesboro, and the counties of Augusta, Highland, and Nelson.

42% of our neighbors are ALICE.

* The term ALICE was coined in 2009 by the United Way of Northern New Jersey.
