VOUCH FOR ME

FISHERSVILLE, VA

Sylvia's life took a drastic turn after a head-on car collision not only severely impacted her physical well-being but also crippled her income. Keeping a roof over her head became an overwhelming financial challenge. A glimmer of hope came in the form of a HUD (United States Department of Housing and Urban Development) housing voucher. Sylvia was lucky. She was on the waitlist for just one year.

Now, Sylvia wishes for the same relief to be extended to her brother, Jabern. Unfortunately, he's one of a thousand people languishing on the waiting list for just 36 vouchers. While the HUD vouchers hold the potential to transform lives, the waiting period can be excruciatingly long.

Sylvia and Jay live at Gateway. We met them in the office of community manager Jessica who helps to support residents like Sylvia and Jay.

Sylvia shows us a picture of her brother in the hospital just last year. He died for a few moments under anesthesia and Sylvia thought she was going to have to plan his funeral. Jay now proudly boasts a clean bill of health!
